Teaching Truth
Equipping Believers to Live Out Our Mission:
To know Him and to make Him known to all peoples
God has revealed Himself through the Scriptures in order that through them we might come to know Him, love Him, and be like Him. We believe that the teaching of God's Word is essential in the life of a church body that is going to reflect the priorities of a New Testament church. We are fully committed to the teaching of the Word of God in our weekly worship service in a way that is accurate, clear and relevant. We believe God's Word to be one of the primary tools the Holy Spirit uses to form the character and purpose of Christ in the life of a believer.
We are also committed to establishing believers in their faith and equipping them for fruitful service through a comprehensive adult education program, reflecting our essential 4-fold commitment to becoming fully-functioning followers of Christ through:
-
Exalting the Supremacy of Christ
A life of worship and pursuit of growing Christ-likeness. -
Experiencing the Presence of Christ
A life of loving and caring relationships with our physical and spiritual families. -
Engaging in the Work of Christ as Gifted Servants
A life of utilizing our time, gifts, and resources for serving one another. -
Extending the Hope of Christ to a Lost World
A life of loving the lost people in our sphere of influence and investing in those who take the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
Expository Teaching
At CFC we are committed to the expository teaching of God's Word. Expository teaching simply means to reveal the meaning or purpose of the writing being studied. Expository teaching of the Scriptures can be done in one of two ways:
-
Verse by Verse
First, we can study a book of the Bible verse by verse, from beginning to end. This is an effective approach to Bible study because it allows the student to see the full range of truth contained in the Scripture while also allowing the Word of God to determine the amount of emphasis placed on any given subject. -
Topically
Expository teaching also can be accomplished by revealing what the Scripture as a whole says regarding a particular topic. This type of teaching is necessary if we are to gain a full understanding of Scripture on an individual subject. Expository teaching that explains what the Bible says regarding a particular topic is what we call "macro-exposition," while the verse-by-verse approach is "micro-exposition." Both means of teaching are vital to understanding the Scriptures and are utilized in our worship services and/or Adult Fellowships.
