Ministry Focus
East-West Ministries International (EWMI) vision is to evangelize and equip nationals to establish grace-oriented churches. Our focus is to work in the “hard to reach places,” those areas of the world where less than 2% of the population are Christian and/or in politically closed countries to the gospel. This puts much of our work in the 10-40 window, which stretches from northern Africa, through Central Asia, India, China and Indonesia, as well as countries like Cuba.
Primary Ministry Activities
I serve as the Director of Short Term Missions Trips and as the Regional Manager for our Caribbean field, which includes Cuba, Haiti and Mexico. We are seeking in 2011 to send out 50 plus teams to our various fields. These teams will be evangelism teams working with our national pastors, seeking to assist in the planting or growth of the local church. Along with this, we are looking for US churches who willlook at a 3 to 5 year partnership with a region or an “unreached people group.”
As Regional Manager for Cuba – we are in the midst of an unprecedented movement of God’s Spirit in this country. This year (2011) we are trusting God for over 2.5 million Cubans to hear the gospel, with 300,000 making decisions for Christ. With this we are seeking to plant over 10,000 house churches to follow-up with the new believers and provide growth and worship.
Sharon serves on the Women’s Leadership Team, seeking to serve our EWMI women here and internationally.
Sharon and I served on the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ for 25 years and were led to join the staff of EWMI in August, 2005.
Personal Journey - Call to Christ
David: I came to salvation at the age of 14 through the influence, teaching and guidance of my father.
Sharon: God graciously brought me into His family when, as a child of 8, my mother shared the gospel with me. I placed my trust in Him and committed my life to Him at that time.
Call to Missions Service
David: In 1980, I had graduated from college and had been in sales and marketing for that past year. I was in a family business, very active in my local church, and very pleased with my station in life. In October of 1980, as a result of a conversation with my father on a business trip, I found myself being "called" by God to serve Him full-time. This was a very distinct call, and very clear God was redirecting my life. As I pursued His call, I found myself two months later (Jan, 1981) on my way to San Bernardino, CA to join the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ
Sharon: Though I had told the Lord I'd "go anywhere, do anything" for Him, I never imagined I'd be a missionary! Initially my "call" was more to be David's wife than to enter missions specifically. Over time, the privilege of being a part of people's salvation and spiritual growth has developed into my heart's desire. My "call" is to be His yielded servant - His "call" for me is missions.
Fruits of Our Labor
In August, 2001, we trained and deployed a team to Samara, Russia to target the business/professional community. God has given us over the past 8 years an incredible ministry in the educational community. There are over 300 teachers teaching morals and ethics based on the Bible to their kids. This ministry is now being led by nationals. We have a team on the university campus and now in the business/professional community. It is truly incredible to see the open doors, the relationships, and ministry this team is having. God has raised up a church here in the states to partner with us in this work to plant a church in Samara.
We are seeking to partner with local churches who desire to target specific geographic or people groups around the world. It is really exciting to be directly partnering with the Body of Christ in this way.
