Ministry Focus
Great Commission Ministries - Bringing college students in Spain to Jesus Christ and preparing them for a lifetime of service. Church planting at the universities in Pamplona, Spain.
Personal Journey - Call to Christ
Dom: Although I grew up in a religious home and knew about God, I did not know Him personally. My parents divorced when I was 10. As a child I would lie, take things that weren’t mine, and fight with classmates. The divorce caused me to search for purpose and stability in my life. My older brother, Michael, who was 19 years old at the time, became a Christian. I saw a big change for the better in him and wanted that for my life.
In June of 1983, at a Vacation Bible School, I confessed being a sinner and trusted that Jesus Christ died for all my sins on the cross and rose from the dead. Even then I sensed God wanting me to tell many others about His love and forgiveness.
Dámaris: I was born in Zaragoza, Spain, and grew up in that city all of my life. My father has been an evangelical pastor and church planter in Spain for the past 60 years! In 1981, through the example of my parents and sisters’ living faith in Jesus Christ, I came to personally have a relationship with Jesus and have been growing in Him ever since.
Call to Missions Service
Dom: In my senior year of high school, I recommitted my life to Jesus Christ at a Christian concert. I was encouraged to study the Bible, pray daily and find others who were doing the same. Looking for Christian fellowship upon entering the University of Florida became a priority. Siva, a UF student who was originally from India, befriended me. We got together to pray and study the Bible with a few other freshmen involved in Gator Christian Life. I began to understand what I had been missing. He asked if I wanted to meet once a week to share the Gospel with UF students using a spiritual interest questionnaire. Learning how to effectively share my faith with others was a new and exciting experience. In 1991, I was invited to attend a summer program called Leadership Training (LT) held in Washington DC. After the summer of intense Bible teaching, challenging work experience, and evangelism training, I sensed the Lord calling me towards missions.
Over the next three summers, God confirmed that He was preparing me for full-time Christian service. My mother’s relocation to Jacksonville and a job in business first brought me to Christian Family Chapel in September 1996 where I served in both the college and singles ministry. By the summer of 1998, I returned to UF as a full-time missionary. In January 2001, CFC officially commended me as a missionary. Later that same year, a UF student’s mother from Spain introduced Dámaris and me by email. An amazing friendship developed between us and we married in the summer of 2003. When Dámaris came to UF, she instantly fit in with the team and served with me in the ministry for five years there. She is a gifted teacher, administrator and hostess.
For over a decade at UF, the Lord had prepared me for cross-cultural missions. Some of the ways have been through leading multiple short-term mission teams to Latin America and Europe, establishing an International Student Ministry at UF and marrying an international wife! Since being ordained as a campus pastor in November 2005, we have been convinced that the most effective way to fulfill the Great Commission is by planting churches. The Lord has opened a door for us to plant a campus church in Pamplona, Spain that has a college student population of 25,000 with no other evangelical ministry. We moved to Pamplona in September 2008 and have been building a church plant team, holding weekly on-campus Bible studies and reaching out to both campuses.
Fruits of Our Labor
Personal Evangelism and Equipping Others: Dom actively shares the gospel with the lost. Over the past year, he has helped four people come to Christ in Pamplona. He has had the privilege of equipping hundreds of college students from UF as well as other US and European universities in how to share their faith. He also has helped to equip the church plant team, some local believers and some GCE church leaders from Italy, France and Spain. To God be the glory!
International Church Planting: Since moving to Spain in September 2008, the Marrone family has been adjusting to the new culture, learning the new language (Dom), recruiting a church plant team, building trusting relationships with locals, bringing leadership to a small group of young believers, hosting mission teams, and holding English Clubs as a primary way to reach young people for Christ. Praise God for giving success in each of these areas!
