Judy Wood
Ministry Focus
East West Ministries International
Judy – Facilitates and oversees Russian Women’s Ministries and serves as a consultant for the development of Women’s Ministries on other EW fields.
Tony – Adjunct Faculty - teaching on various EW ministry fields as opportunities arise.
Primary Ministry Activities
Tony and Judy began ministry in Russia in August 1993, teaching Bible in a Russian public school. We were both eager and very afraid to go to Russia. We ministered there until 1998 when we sensed the Lord leading us to move back to the US, and to continue our work with EW from our headquarters in Dallas. Tony has traveled often, teaching and discipling church leaders, while Judy’s role has largely been that of facilitating the Russian Women’s Ministries through administrative support and shared oversight.
2010 changes to Tony’s and Judy’s roles:
As of April 2010, God has directed Tony to leave full time ministry with EW. He does, however, teach on various ministry fields as opportunity arises. Judy’s role has increased and now includes: management of Russian Women’s Ministries; and serving as EW’s Facilitator of Women’s Ministries, to assist EW Field Leaders in equipping women on their ministry fields for service and outreach.
Personal Journey - Call to Christ
I (Judy) was raised in a church-going family, but I didn’t personally understand my need to receive Christ as Savior until at 13 years old. I was invited by a good friend to go to a Bible study. I stayed afterward to talk with the leader and prayed to receive Christ. Growth was sporadic until I got involved in ministry with Young Life during my junior year of college. God’s patient, persistent love over the years has yielded fruit, but the more I grow, the more aware I am of my need to know Him more fully.
Call to Missions Service
I first became aware of God’s call to me to serve Him when I was in college and had a desire to reach out to youth. I began to volunteer with Young Life. I found ministry extremely challenging and fulfilling. I wanted to marry someone who was in ministry, so that we could serve the Lord together, and the Lord answered that desire.
Fruits of Our Labor
Tony: Over the past 17 years of ministry with East West, Tony has equipped church leaders with training in ministry skills, Bible and Theology in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, India, and China. The fruits of these labors are evident in the relationships he has built with ministry leaders and the growth of the church, especially in Central Asia where there were less than 10 known believers and no protestant churches in 1991. Today there are over 14,000 believers and about 250 registered churches.
Judy: Judy’s work with Russian Women’s Ministries since 1999 has contributed to the training of over 1000 ministry leaders who have been trained in Bible and ministry skills. Graduates have started many ministries and small group Bible studies in which thousands of women are involved. The church in Russia has been greatly strengthened by the impact of these women on other women, Russian families and communities. Judy has also played an integral part in the development of MOPs (Mothers of Preschoolers) in Russia and unbelieving moms and families are being reached. Evidence of God’s Spirit bearing “fruit that lasts” is the story of a girl who came to Christ in a Bible study that Judy led while we lived in Moscow. She is now serving as a missionary with her husband & children in a very volatile, unreached part of Russia!
Prayer Requests
- Our close walk with the Lord.
- MOPS: For an effective team to assist Leah Alieva in development and multiplication of MOPs in Russia; over the next 5 years, God will provide a plan for MOPs to be self-sustaining in Russia.
- Russian National Women’s Ministries Training: For the 800+ women currently studying in 4th generation training centers– that each one will multiply and entrust to others what she is receiving.
- For God to use Judy to assist other EW ministry fields to equip women for church service and outreach.
- For provision of God’s long-term plans for Tony’s work and ministry.
- That Luke and Anna will continue to walk with Christ and fulfill His purposes for their lives.
